The immense and very realistic figure of Jesus Christ crucified is to the left of the main entrance, accompanied by a space to pray in front of him, while on one side, a plaque recalls part of the historical milestones of its construction.

After kneeling to give thanks and make my petitions before the altar, I realize that we are in Lent, and that is why the temple remains in darkness, creating an atmosphere of atonement for sins, the word is not read, and the dynamics of the mass changes completely. I had never seen this way of living the time of Lent, since in other churches they only suppressed the songs of glory and the usual readings were not done, making the rite something really very short.

De hecho, el día que encontré la iglesia de la Sagrada Familia, ubicada en pleno corazón de la ciudad de Banfield, en la provincia de Buenos Aires (Argentina) me extrañó considerablemente que estuviera cerrada un domingo por la tarde, cuando lo habitual es que esté abierta para recibir a los feligreses.

Sin embargo, esto no amilanó mis ánimos, y luego de cruzar la calle, me detuve en el frente a contemplar los detalles y la majestuosidad de este edificio religioso que data de 1893, que en la entrada ostenta un gran cartel que dice "La parroquia es el barrio" como una manera de hacer entender que todos son parte, aunque no profesen la religión católica.

En cada una de las naves de los costados se encuentran la figura de San Joaquín (izquierda) y Santa Ana (derecha) quienes son poco conocidos entre los santos católicos, pero que vienen a ser los padres de la virgen María, luego de 20 años de casados sin lograr tener descendencia.

Desde lo lejos pude detallar que también cuenta con un ceniciario en un costado, a donde se pueden depositar las cenizas de los fallecidos que hayan sido cremados. Este detalle lo he visto ya en varias iglesias, y me parece excelente pues muchas familias que optan por no enterrar a sus seres queridos que ya pasaron de plano, se quedaban con las cenizas en casa, siendo contraproducente no solo a nivel sanitario, sino también emocional.

Poder llevar los restos a un ceniciario le da un cierre a este proceso, pero también un espacio a donde ir cuando los recuerdos abruman.

Cuando me dirigía a la casa parroquial, una señora me pregunta si está abierta la iglesia, y ante mi respuesta negativa también se sorprendió. Ya un poco resignada a no poder conocerla en su interior, decidí dar unas vueltas por esa parte de la ciudad, ya que siempre suelo frecuentar el lado este y no el oeste que es donde se ubica el templo.

Sin embargo, en la vía de vuelta a la parada para irme a casa, la encontré no solo abierta, sino iluminada por fuera, cosa que la hacía ver más hermosa, ya que el tono blanco ostra de sus paredes externas se veían color naranja por el efecto de las luces que rebotaban a lo largo y ancho de la estructura.

Tímidamente entré a una iglesia completamente a oscuras, en la que solo habían 4 personas y el sacerdote, pero no había misa, de hecho, el párroco estaba sentado como un feligrés más en las bancas frente al altar, que se encontraba solo con una pequeña iluminación focal.

Desde el lado de fuera de los barrotes que salvaguardan el salón principal, pude detallar el hermoso techo cóncavo pintado al estilo de la capilla sixtina con pasajes en los que los ángeles y la virgen eran los protagonistas.

La inmensa y muy realista figura de Jesucristo crucificado se encuentra a la izquierda de la entrada principal, acompañado por un espacio para orar frente a él, mientras que en un costado, una placa rememora parte de los hitos históricos de su construcción.

Luego de hincarme para agradecer y hacer mis peticiones ante el altar, caigo en cuenta que estamos en tiempo de cuaresma, y es por eso que el templo permanece a oscuras, creando un ambiente de expiación de los pecados, no se lee la palabra, y la dinámica de la misa cambia totalmente. Nunca había visto esta forma de vivir el tiempo de cuaresma, ya que en otras iglesias solo suprimían los cantos de gloria y no se hacían las lecturas habituales, haciendo del rito algo realmente muy corto.

Ya de salida de esta especie de velorio, me percaté del detalle de las figuras hechas en vitrales que se ubican en la entrada y que simulan dos parejas, que intuyo serán la de los abuelos y los padres de Jesús, complementando así la sagrada familia terrenal del hijo de Dios ante los ojos del hombre.
