We have reached a very important milestone, which deserves to be celebrated properly! When we started Mizu no Oto a year and ten months ago, we never thought we would get to fifty editions and find so much place in your hearts. For this reason, we have decided to celebrate with a very special edition of the contest, something that involves all the participants in a more close and choral way. It has been a long time since we dreamed of making a *renga*, or "linked poem". After all, this was the poetic form from which the haiku were born and it has always seemed to us very funny to try to recall it with contemporary means and style. We talked about *renga* in the first theoretical article, which you can find at the bottom of the edition of [Mizu No Oto # 23](https://peakd.com/haikucontest/@bananafish/mizu-no-oto-every-image-Has-its-haiku-edition-23-Inglese). In a nutshell, it is a chain of verses composed by many poets, each of whom engages with the previous one, forming a choral poem. Instead of presenting you with a photograph from which to be inspired for the theme of your compositions, this time the prompt consists of a haiku that will act as *hokku*, that is, as the beginning of the chain. In the comments to this post, please "book" the order in which you want to place yourself in our *renga*. Once the order is established, we invite you to wait for the participant before you to compose his haiku and post it on his blog (and in the Bananafish community). At this point, it will be up to you to post your haiku, which must be linked to the previous one or be a response by contrast. For example, the first person interested in this game will write in the comments "first!" and will have to compose a haiku that continues or responds to the prompt theme. # An historical example of *renga* [ENG]
These are the first six stanzas of a *hyaku-in-renga* (*renga* of one hundred stanzas) of the Muromachi era, presided over by the master Inō Sōgi (1421-1502); the metric is not respected in the translation: the feet of the mountains covered by fog in the evening; residual snow (Sōgi) water flowing in the distance; a village among fragrant plum trees (Shōhaku) the wind from the river crosses the willows: spring (Sōcho) sound of a rowboat: radiant dawn (Sōgi) perhaps still lingers the moon on this night shrouded in fog (Shōhaku) hoarfrost over the fields: autumn is coming to an end (Sōcho) As can be seen, the connection between one stanza and the other can be given by an association of thoughts or by a contrast. For example, the penultimate stanza marks a strong contrast with the previous one: the radiant dawn on one side, the foggy night, that is its opposite, on the other.
