POLIS: The Trial of Socrates is a three-part historical graphic novel that takes place in ancient Athens. It's the story of how one of the greatest free thinkers in the ancient world was executed by the era's most democratic city. It also tells the story of how Plato transformed from an aristocratic politician into the founder of Western philosophy. This campaign is meant to fund Part 1 of the story: The Restoration.

Chapter 1, The Restoration: Defeated by Sparta in the Peloponnesian war, the Athenian democracy has been toppled and replaced by a puppet government known to history as The Thirty Tyrants. Socrates clashes with the unofficial leader of the tyrants, Critias. The latter happens to be the older cousin of Aristocles, or as we know him, Plato.

The Restoration comes to a climax when the exiled democratic forces invade Athens and oust the false government. Socrates risks the battlefield to find a young friend drafted into Critias' army, and in doing so he makes a powerful enemy. Plato fights against the democrats and must choose between defeat and cowardice. In the end, the democracy is restored, and the stage is set for the case against Socrates.

Hey folks, I've successfully completed a couple Kickstarter campaign for my comic book series, Lesbian Zombies from Outer Space, and I've currently got a campaign up on Kickstarter for my NEW book - The Trial of Socrates. So I'm familiar with crowdfunding.

But as I write up my campaign here on fundition, I'm still a bit unclear how this all works. I'll say this: I figured I'd give this a try to run this concurrent with a Kickstarter campaign (which started April 30th and ends May 28th). I believe crowdfunding through a blockchain is the future - but at this point, I think most backers are still on Kickstarter and the others like it. I figure it makes the most sense to use both platforms for now.

That being said, my goal here is to raise $1000. This amount will not allow me to produce the 60-page book, but added to the Kickstarter funds, it certainly makes the production a lot more likely and smooth.

I appreciate any support you can offer! And I also hope to learn more about fundition as I go so things will work out better the next time.

Where does the money go?

I'm the writer, and I can't draw worth a damn. That means all the beautiful art you see is by artists who I have to pay. So the vast majority of funds raised here will go to pay the artists. Apart from that, it will go to printing the books, postage and shipping.
