（日本語は後半にあります）【English】 I had a bad experience at work last night and am still bothered by it, so let me write. When I went out to the sales floor to restock, an elderly man asked me about the availability of a certain product. He looked like a clean, ordinary old man, but his voice was loud and overbearing, and I felt very uncomfortable. But because I tried to listen to the story of the man, I got into trouble. I did not immediately know which item he meant, as there was no stock on the spot. So I asked him about that item to confirm, and he became furious. When I started to speak something, he would speak loudly over me, as if interrupting me. "No!", "No, it's not!", "That's not what I'm asking you!" ...I listened to his (long) story, trying to answer only what he asked, and as soon as I started to speak, he interrupted me again with a loud voice. The conversation seemed to be in perpetual flux, as he refused to listen to me at all. In the meantime, a line was beginning to form in front of the cash register with customers waiting to pay, so I forcefully cut off the conversation with him and returned to the register. I know it was a pretty poor response for a " store clerk," but I was also angry and could have said something rude if I talked any further. Plus, I couldn't just leave all these customers waiting at the register. https://i.imgur.com/9a5hauX.jpeg I always think, I still don't know how I should respond to such people who treat me with hostility, malice, and aggression from the beginning. In my private life, I try not to get involved with such people. But when it comes to work, I can't avoid getting involved with them, especially if the person is my boss, senior, or a customer, and I can't be strong with them because of my position. And such people appear in my life from time to time. Sometimes I wonder if I attract such people. Or do I offend them because I don't say things well, or don't get the point across, or don't understand things well enough? ...Hmmm...but I still think that they are frustrated even before they talk to me, and they are choosing me as someone they can easily take it out on. https://i.imgur.com/aASE5IW.jpeg I am still having trouble coming up with thoughts, but that is why I was so tired last night. As I work with people, I am sure that I will encounter similar cases in the future. What should I do to cope well with such situations? And if I can, I want to be a "hard target" for grumpiness and anger, that's the best. The complainers, like the old man last night, usually target women more than men, and they go for the men who seem nice and willing to listen to them, not the ones who seem strong. Could one way to deal with this be to make me look strong and go to work?

【Japanese】昨夜仕事でちょっとイヤな思いをして、まだモヤモヤしているので書かせてください。商品の補充のため売り場に出た際、一人のお年寄りからある商品の入荷予定について訊かれました。一見すると小綺麗な、普通のおじいさんという感じでしたが、声が大きく威圧的で、すごくイヤな感じを受けました。もう初めから質問というより、イチャモンといった感じでした。 https://i.imgur.com/mjrbOWP.jpeg 今思えば私も「私では分かりかねますので、店長から連絡させていただきます」とでも言って、連絡先を尋ねるなどすればよかったのだと思います。が、ヘタに相手の話を聞こうとしてしまったため、面倒なことになってしまいました。その場に在庫がなく、聞かれてもすぐにどの商品を指しているのか分かりませんでした。そこで確認しようとしたところ、途端に相手がヒートアップしました。私が何か話し出すと、遮るように大声で被せて話す。「違う！」「そうじゃない！」「そんなことを訊いてるんじゃない！」…訊かれたことのみに答えようと、 ~~ジジイ~~相手の（長い）話を聞き、こちらが話し始めるとすぐまた「だからあ！」と遮る・・・私の話は全く聞こうとしないため、会話は永久に噛み合いません。どうにも埒が明かず、レジ待ちのお客さんで行列ができ始めていたこともあり、強引に対応を切り上げてレジに戻りました。「店員」としてはかなり良くない対応だったのは分かっているのですが、私も腹が立っていて、それ以上話していると失礼なことを言いかねませんでした。レジ待ちのお客さんを放置するわけにもいかなかったし。 https://i.imgur.com/9a5hauX.jpeg 余談ですが、私はこの「だからあ！」という言葉がすごく嫌いです。この言葉を使われると、まるで相手は何度も同じことを言っているのに、こちらが全く理解できない無能、みたいな図式になるのが許せないんですよね。
いつも思います、こういう最初から敵意というか悪意というか、攻撃する気満々で接してくる人に、私はどう対応したらよいのか未だに分かりません。プライベートであればそういう人とはなるべくかかわらなければ良いだけで、実際そうしています。でも仕事となると、特にその相手が上司や先輩、お客さんだった場合、関わらないわけにはいかないし、立場上強くも出られません。そしてそういう相手は、私の生活に時々登場します。私がそういう不機嫌な人を引き寄せているのだろうか、と考えることもあります。或いは私の物言いが良くなくて、要領を得ていなくて、理解力が足りなくて、相手を怒らせてしまうのか・・・うーん、でもやっぱり、私と話す前からイライラしていて、当たりやすそうな相手として私を選んでいるような気がするんですよね。おとなしそうに見えるのでしょうか。稀に八つ当たりされても上手く話を聞いて、相手を良い気分にさせてしまうことができる猛者もいますが、ほんと尊敬します。私は苛立ちや怒りをぶつけられると一瞬頭が真っ白になり（え？何、なに？となって）その後、無性に腹が立ってくるのです。もしかしたら、その怒りが顔に出ているのが良くないのかもしれません。 https://i.imgur.com/aASE5IW.jpeg 考えはまとまらないままですが、そんなわけで昨夜はとても疲れました。人と接する仕事である以上、これからも同じようなケースに遭遇することはあると思います。そんな時、上手く対処するにはどうしたら良いのでしょうか。またできることなら、不機嫌や怒りを「ぶつけにくい対象」になるのが理想です。昨夜のようなクレーマーさんは大抵、男性より女性にいくし、同じ男性でも強そうな人ではなく、優しくて話を聞いてくれそうな人の方に行くんです。筋トレしてムッキムキになって売り場に立てば、そういう事態も上手く対処できたりするんでしょうか（投げやり😂） Posted Using [InLeo Alpha](https://inleo.io/@go-kyo/how-do-i-deal-with-someone-who-takes-out-their-anger-on-me-englishjapanese)
