Saludos y buenos humos para todos y todas las amantes de la cultura cannábica de Hive. Hace unos días puse a germinar una nueva tanda de semillas de cannabis. También planté las primeras semillas de albahaca de la temporada. Tanto las semillas de albahaca como las de cannabis, son de cosecha propia.

Semillas de cannabis pongo a germinar más de las que necesito, ya que la tasa de éxito no suele ser del 100%. En esta ocasión, decidí germinar 25, aunque solo necesitaba 18. De las 25, hasta el momento han germinado 24, y la última ya muestra la punta blanca de la radícula. Me alegra que no haya fallado ninguna, ya que esto no es lo habitual. En la caja al final decidí plantar 20, dos más de lo planeado. Las que no cabían en la caja, las planté en macetas pequeñas para hacer plantas tamaño bonsai.

Antes de plantarlas, me gusta quitarles el tegumento. El tegumento es el órgano de protección de las semillas. En la planta de cannabis, el tegumento está formado por dos capas:

Si la semilla es de buena calidad, debería desprenderse del tegumento por sí misma. A veces no es así y esto provoca que la planta acabe muriendo. Yo prefiero quitarle el tegumento antes de plantarlas. No siempre es fácil porque la plántula está muy tierna y es fácil romperla. En esta ocasión, las dos capas se quitaban con mucha facilidad. Buena señal.

A continuación, las paso a la tierra enterrándolas por completo y 24 horas después suelen emerger.

Para tapar un poco el olor del cannabis y no llamar la atención de los vecinos, planto alrededor de la caja, semillas de albahaca. Cuando cosecho el cannabis paso las albahacas a macetas y estas siguen su ciclo. Hay agricultores que plantan albahaca junto a las tomateras porque dicen que aporta sabor y aroma al tomate. A lo mejor con el cannabis pasa lo mismo. No lo sé, yo lo hago para tapar el olor y porqué es una hierba aromática que uilizo mucho para cocinar.

Para sacar las semillas de albahaca de las flores secas, utilizo el molinillo que uso para el cannabis. Va de lujo también para esto. El molinillo tiene un recipiente en el que caen las semillas separadas de las flores secas.

Greetings and good smoke to all the cannabis culture lovers of Hive. A few days ago I started germinating a new batch of cannabis seeds. I also planted the first batch of basil seeds for the season. Both the basil and cannabis seeds are from my own harvest.

I start germinating more cannabis seeds than I need, as the success rate is not usually 100%. This time, I decided to germinate 25, even though I only needed 18. Out of the 25, 24 have germinated so far, and the last one is already showing the white tip of the radicle. I'm glad that none have failed, as this is not the usual case. In the final box, I decided to plant 20, two more than planned. The ones that didn't fit in the box, I planted in small pots to make bonsai-sized plants.

Before planting, I like to remove the integument. The integument is the protective organ of the seeds. In the cannabis plant, the integument is made up of two layers:

If the seed is of good quality, it should shed its seed coat by itself. Sometimes this doesn't happen, leading to the plant eventually dying. I prefer to remove the seed coat before planting them. It's not always easy because the seedling is very delicate and can easily break. This time, both layers were removed very easily. A good sign.

I then bury them completely in the ground and 24 hours later they usually emerge.

To help mask the smell of the cannabis and not draw the attention of the neighbors, I plant basil seeds around the grow box. When I harvest the cannabis, I transplant the basil plants into pots and they continue their cycle. Some growers plant basil alongside their tomato plants because they say it adds flavor and aroma to the tomatoes. Maybe the same thing happens with cannabis. I don't know, but I do it to help cover the smell and because it's an aromatic herb that I use a lot for cooking.

To extract the basil seeds from the dried flowers, I use the grinder that I use for the cannabis. It works great for this as well. The grinder has a container where the seeds fall separated from the dried flowers.
