J'ai écrit ce livre il y a déjà 15 ans. L'histoire d'un voyage en mer de 3 ans, effectué pour la plongée sous-marine entre la Nouvelle Zélande et Mayotte. Un voyage en Mélanésie, en Asie, à travers l'Océan Indien qui m'a ramené changé sur une île que je connaissais déjà et que je garde bien au chaud au fond de mon cœur, Mayotte. Il y a dans ce livre, un récit, des extrait du carnet de voyage, des extraits du journal de plongée, des cartes, des traits d'humeur, et trois ans de ma vie. Je le publie désormais sur Hive en espérant que vous le lirez et le partagerez. Certaines photographies ont peut-être déjà été publiées sur Hive, par avance je m'en excuse, mais elles sont aujourd'hui publiées dans un autre contexte. I wrote this book 15 years ago. The story of a 3-year sea trip, made for scuba diving between New Zealand and Mayotte. A trip to Melanesia, in Asia, through the Indian Ocean that brought me changed on an island that I already knew and that I keep warm at the bottom of my heart, Mayotte. There is in this book, a story, excerpts from the travel diary, extracts from the dive journal, maps, moods, and three years of my life. I now publish it on Hive hoping you will read and share it. VOICI LA PARTIE 5 - En Français

L’Ile des Pins, que cette île est belle! Un lagon d’un turquoise parfait, des cocotiers à la cambrure africaine laissant reposer nonchalamment leurs ombres sur des plages au sable blanc et farineux, et des fonds sous-marins suffisants pour une vie entière de plongées. C’est la quatrième fois que je m’y rends, et mon admiration reste toujours à l’identique.

La plage de Kanumera, restera pour moi le plus bel hôpital qu’il m’ait été donné de fréquenter. Debout, les pieds dans l’eau, à l’ombre d’un filaos, je tends mon épaule à la compagne infirmière de mon futur membre d’équipage et éternel ami, Marceau. Trois piqûres, un carnet de vaccination que je finirai de remplir moi-même, un dernier baiser, l’ancre est virée à la voile, et Aurora met tout doucement les dernières roches du Cailloux dans son sillage.

Qu’il est dangereux de mettre une carte marine sous les yeux d’un rêveur en bateau... Je me rappelle les yeux brillants de Graham, néo-zélandais de 65 ans, ayant réalisé avec sa femme et ses enfants, trois boucles autour du monde par des routes différentes. L’atlas ouvert, Graham rêvait encore, comme le ferait un enfant de 6 ans attendant le père Noël une nuit d’un 24 Décembre. Où aller? Chaque route apporte la certitude de rencontres, de plongées, d’îles isolées. Si la porte de sortie logique de La Nouvelle Calédonie semble être Le Vanuatu, la suite, elle, reste bien plus abstraite. Rejoindre La Polynésie en passant par Les Fidjis...? Redescendre en Nouvelle Zélande...? Suivre l’autoroute en passant par l’Australie et le détroit de Torres...? Le mieux est certainement de ne pas se poser trop de questions, le voyage finira par trouver son chemin tout seul.

D’autant plus, qu’à partir trop rapidement on en oublie de faire les gestes essentiels. Par exemple celui de faire réviser son moteur... D’un autre côté, tomber en panne à Lifou, une des trois îles Loyautés, dans la magnifique baie de Santal, et à 20 minutes en barque de superbes sites de plongées, ça ne pousse pas forcément à vouloir insulter son mécanicien pour qu’il travaille plus vite... Les pièces commandées à Nouméa tardent à venir, quel dommage! Nous resterons donc encore quelques jours de plus. Mili et Téo nous promènent à terre comme en mer. Nous plongeons, chassons, faisons connaissance avec les fourmis électriques des campagnes et également avec les excès du “cava”. Il s’agit d’une boisson locale faite à base de racines de la plante du même nom, que l’on pourrait qualifier «d’anesthésiante» en cas de surdose. Cette boisson ne saoule pas. Elle vous laisse l’esprit dans un état parfaitement lucide, mais incapable de transmettre à votre jambe droite l’ordre d’aller rattraper sa voisine de gauche. Du coup ça titube dur! Quelques semaines plus tard, un ami de Port Vila (Vanuatu) me racontera que suite à une soirée où le cava coulait à flots, il lui est arrivé de rester une heure, appuyé contre le mur de son entrée, parfaitement conscient, avec son index figé à 5cm de l’interrupteur. Ses yeux regardaient son doigt, son esprit comprenait qu’il fallait ordonner le déplacement de son doigt de 5cm supplémentaires pour pouvoir allumer la lampe et donc trouver la serrure de la porte, mais impossible de bouger une quelconque partie de son corps. L’ampoule est restée éteinte et la porte fermée durant toute cette heure... Le cava, c’est fini pour moi!

The Isle of Pines, how beautiful this island is! A perfect turquoise lagoon, coconut trees with African cambrure letting their shadows rest nonchalantly on beaches of white and farinous sand, and sufficient underwater bottoms for a lifetime of diving. This is the fourth time I visit, and my admiration remains unchanged.

The beach of Kanumera, will remain for me the most beautiful hospital that I have been given to attend. Standing with my feet in the water, in the shade of a filaos, I extend my shoulder to the nurse companion of my future crew member and eternal friend, Marceau. Three bites, a vaccination booklet that I will finish filling myself, one last kiss, the anchor is turned to sail, and Aurora slowly puts the last rocks of the Cailloux in its wake.

How dangerous it is to put a sea map before the eyes of a dreamer on a boat... I remember the bright eyes of Graham, a 65-year-old New Zealander, who made three loops around the world on different routes with his wife and children. The atlas opened, Graham was still dreaming, like a 6-year-old waiting for Santa on a night of 24 December. Where to go? Each route brings the certainty of encounters, dives, isolated islands. If the logical way out of New Caledonia seems to be Vanuatu, the rest remains much more abstract. Reach Polynesia via Fidjis...? Go back to New Zealand...? Follow the highway through Australia and the Torres Strait...? The best is certainly not to ask too many questions, the journey will eventually find its way on its own.

All the more so because leaving too quickly you forget to do the essential gestures. For example, to have your engine serviced... On the other hand, crashing in Lifou, one of the three Loyalty Islands, in the beautiful bay of Santal, and 20 minutes by boat from superb dive sites, does not necessarily lead to want to insult his mechanic so that he works faster... The parts ordered in Nouméa are late to come, what a shame! We will stay a few more days. Mili and Téo walk us to land as in sea. We dive, hunt, get acquainted with the electric ants of the countryside and also with the excesses of the “cava”. It is a local drink made from the roots of the plant of the same name, which could be described as «anesthetic» in case of overdose. This drink is not drunk. It leaves your mind in a perfectly lucid state, but unable to transmit to your right leg the order to go catch up with its neighbor on the left. So it stumbles hard! A few weeks later, a friend of mine from Port Vila (Vanuatu) will tell me that after an evening in which the cava was running high, he spent an hour leaning against the wall of his entrance, perfectly conscious, with his index finger frozen at 5cm from the switch. His eyes looked at his finger, his mind understood that it was necessary to order the movement of his finger by 5cm extra to be able to turn on the lamp and thus find the lock of the door, but impossible to move any part of his body. The light bulb was off and the door closed for all this hour... The cava, it’s over for me!
