Finally a huge project is finished. My husband @michaeldietrich recorded his song "Warriors in the Mist" recently, a beautiful acoustic folk song. Because this became one of my and even our daughter's favourite song, we decided to make a "little lyrics video". The song is about the first chapter of "A Wizard of Earthsea", a fantasy novel by Ursula K. Le Guin. A village is attacked by warriors, but a young wizard is able to safe it by summoning a mysterious mist. You can read more about the background of the song in Michael´s post. I decided to make paintings with watercolor, since that was my favourite technique when I started with the video in November 2020. We actually aimed for christmas for releasing the video, but I had no chance to paint that much. Sometimes I sat late in the evening with my wide awake 5 year old daughter in the kitchen and we were painting together (maybe you find some pink spots in my artwork, she also practiced spraying with a toothbrush :D ). Some weeks ago I was ready with the three DinA3 paintings and here they are: Endlich konnte ich ein großes Projekt abschließen. Mein Mann @michaeldietrich hat kürzlich seinen Song "Warriors in the Mist" aufgenommen, ein wunderschöner akustischer Folksong. Nachdem das eines meiner Lieblingslieder und sogar das unserer Tochter wurde, beschlossen wir, ein "kleines Lyricsvideo" zu machen. Das Lied handelt vom ersten Kapitel von "A Wizard of Earthsea", einem Fantasy-Roman von Ursula K. Le Guin. Ein Dorf wird von Kriegern angegriffen, aber ein junger Zauberer kann es retten, indem er einen mysteriösen Nebel heraufbeschwört. Mehr über den Hintergrund des Songs kann man in Michaels Post lesen. Ich habe mich für Aquarell entschieden, da das meine Lieblingstechnik war, als ich im November 2020 mit dem Video startete. Wir wollten das Video eigentlich an Weihnachten veröffentlichen, aber ich hatte keine Chance, so viel zu malen. Manchmal saß ich spät abends mit meiner hellwachen 5-jährigen Tochter in der Küche und wir malten zusammen (vielleicht findet ihr einige rosa Flecken in meinem Bild, sie übte auch die Spritztechnik mit der Zahnbürste: D). Vor einigen Wochen war ich mit den drei DinA3-Gemälden fertig und hier sind sie:

Here you can see some shots of the progress. Later, to digitalize the pictures, I taped the original sheets of paper on a wooden board and made photos of them with high resolution. Hier sind ein paar Aufnahmen von der Entstehung der Bilder. Um sie später zu digitalisieren, klebte ich die Originalblätter auf ein Holzbrett und machte Fotos von ihnen mit hoher Auflösung.

Additionally I drew few graphics in Photoshop and Illustrator to create animations for the video. Then I started cutting the video. Außerdem habe ich in Photoshop und Illustrator ein paar Grafiken gezeichnet, um Animationen für das Video zu erstellen. One fine day few weeks ago we shot the movie of him playing the guitar in front of the green screen. Als ich mit der Platzierung der Bilder und Texte zufrieden war, gab es immer noch genug freie Stellen im Video, um den Musiker selbst zu zeigen. Eines schönen Tages vor ein paar Wochen haben wir dann den Film aufgenommen, in dem er vor dem Green Screen Gitarre spielt.

Some editing sessions later the video was ready and I was pretty glad about that after such a long time. Actually it could have been done within a month, but there were weeks I could only spend half an hour for this project.
