And I was not disappointed. And to add more salt to the wound, her new neighbor is the classmate she hated in college. At first, the pace of the plot is a little slow because the author explains the reason for the twists and turns in January's life, but when the first encounters between the protagonists begin, the story gradually grabs you. I liked Emily Henry's way of writing, although in some points it can be slow or very detailed, it really didn't become heavy, you empathize with the characters, you feel the tension between them, you suffer with them... I can tell you that I cried with their stories, I got angry with the people who hurt them, but I also laughed a lot with the dialogues. The author really knows how to include sarcastic or funny comments during a romantic or serious moment, you can be gawking reading how they kiss at the lake, but then you realize that there is a bag in the water passing by them.

I don't like unnecessary drama; I like romance, fantasy, fiction, and I know that every story should have its moments of drama, because yes, it's something normal, we all have emotions and feelings that should be expressed in some way, however, romance stories tend to abuse these scenes and lengthen the drama, or make it bigger than it is, that's why I'm very picky when reading or watching one. And I'm not going to lie to you, this book has of those scenes, but I understand them —or maybe I empathized a lot with the characters— how many times are my dramatic moments also based on crying and isolating myself? And after what they've both been through, it's understandable that they don't trust and want to walk away. The story feels real, the characters feel real, and you end up wrapped between each page. I missed that excitement. That tension you have when you read a book, knowing something exciting or exasperating is coming; having that anxiety to get to the scene fast, but then you read it so fast you don't understand what you're reading, you reread the same paragraphs and get mad at yourself because you're wasting time and not advancing to the point you want to get to, although you also don't want to trick and get ahead of yourself because you want to experience that thrill of reading, you know what I mean? It's wonderful when a book makes you feel that way, and Emily succeeded with me.

We see how they are in the abyss and little by little they start to climb up, helping each other. And that is the greatest lesson we find in this novel, that it's never too late to start over. There, when you thought you had lost everything, when your world falls on top of you, and you can't breathe, when your legs tremble with every step, that's when you can find your greatest strength. It's not an easy process, and it's okay to have moments when you want to sleep all day to avoid reality, but at some point you have to wake up and face the world, and that's the path January is on. While Gus teaches us how maybe life is not as dark as we think, that there are always rays of light trying to enter, but we just don't let them. With him, we realize that it's good to question ourselves, to question our beliefs, to be a little more open with our surroundings because not everything around us is bad. And especially, they both learn that it's not healthy to drag bitterness from the past into our present.
