Unfortunately, the days with absolutely beautiful weather in Ushuaia are the rarest to enjoy. In this part of the world, at the end of the map, the weather is quite unstable and it is possible to see all seasons on the same day. That is why during my stay here, I took advantage of the clear afternoons as much as possible. No forecast could tell you exactly what the day would be like, so you should always go out prepared for anything. During one of these walks I was able to capture this: in less than half an hour, the weather went from beautiful spring to freezing winter 😂.

Lamentablemente, los días con clima totalmente hermoso en Ushuaia son los más raros de disfrutar. En esta parte del mundo, al fin del mapa, el clima es bastante inestable y es posible ver todas las estaciones en el mismo día. Es por eso que durante mi estadía en este lugar, aprovechaba lo más posible las tardes despejadas. Ningún pronóstico podía acertar a cómo iba a estar el día exactamente, por lo que siempre se debe salir preparado para cualquier cosa. Durante uno de estos paseos pude retratar esto: en menos de media hora, el clima pasó de hermoso primaveral a invernal congelado 😂.

--- --- As the sun is quite scarce here, whenever my fellow volunteers and I saw some rays, we immediately went out to do whatever we could. As we all had volunteer shifts at some point during the day, it was difficult to coordinate a long walk, but at least we could walk the 8 blocks to the Ushuaia waterfront for a short walk. This is always the most touristy place in the city, and on a day like this, it was even more so.

Como el sol escasea bastante en este lugar, cada vez que mis compañeros de voluntariado y yo veíamos que habían algunos rayos, enseguida salíamos a hacer lo que sea. Como todos debíamos cumplir turnos de voluntariado en algún momento del día, era difícil coordinar para hacer un paseo largo, pero al menos podíamos caminar las 8 cuadras hasta la costanera de Ushuaia para un paseo corto. Este lugar siempre es el más turístico de la ciudad, y con un día así de lindo, lo era aún más.

--- During my first visit in 2023, I had seen that they were making a new corridor in the downtown area. This allowed a complete circuit around the so-called Encerrada Bay to be completed. On my second visit in 2025, this passage was not yet complete, but at least it was possible to pass through and walk along it. It is taking forever to complete this work, but at least it looks like it is being done neatly.

Durante mi primera visita en 2023, había visto que estaban haciendo un corredor nuevo en la zona del centro. Este permitía completar un circuito completo alrededor de la llamada Bahía Encerrada. En mi segunda visita en 2025, este paso todavía no estaba completo, pero al menos se podía pasar y caminar el él. Están tardando una eternidad para concluir esta obra, pero al menos tiene pinta de que la están dejando prolija.

--- From this street you can see on both sides: the Bahía Encerrada, a mirror of stagnant water in the middle of the city, and on the other side the Beagle Channel. You can also have a panoramic view of the city and the mountains that surround it. And if you stop to look calmly, you can also notice how fast the clouds are moving. We hadn't even finished reaching the other side of the street, when the sky became overcast, threatening to displace the beautiful sun we had seen coming out of the hostel.

Desde esta calle se puede ver a ambos lados: la Bahía Encerrada, un espejo de agua estancada en medio de la ciudad, y por el otro lado en Canal de Beagle. También se puede observar panorámicamente la ciudad y las montañas que la acompañan. Y si te detienes a mirar con calma, también se puede notar lo rápido que se mueven las nubes. Ni siquiera habíamos terminado de llegar al otro lado de la calle, que el cielo se cubrió de nubosidad, amenazando con desplazar al hermoso sol que habíamos visto saliendo del hostel.

--- It must have taken us about half an hour to find the perfect place to sit for the afternoon, but by then, the sky looked very different than it did at the beginning. Everything had turned grey and it started to get quite cold all of a sudden. As we already knew about this, we had brought extra warm clothes, but the lack of sunshine forced us to cut the walk short faster than we thought. It was January but still below 12°C: a winter at the beginning of the year was very strange for me.

Habremos tardado una media hora en encontrar un lugar perfecto para sentarnos a pasar la tarde, pero para entonces, el cielo se veía muy diferente que al principio. Todo se había vuelto gris y empezó a hacer bastante frío de repente. Como nosotros ya sabíamos sobre esto, habíamos llevado abrigo extra, pero la falta de sol nos obligó a cortar el paseo más rápido de la que pensábamos. Era enero pero igual hacían menos de 12°C: un invierno a principio de año era algo que me resultaba muy extraño.

--- The unpredictable climate of Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, also contributes to its charm. In my entire stay, which lasted almost six months, I think only one or two days were completely sunny. The rest of them were always cloudy, cold, windy and rainy. If these conditions are in summer, I can't imagine what it will be like in winter. I was glad to have been there at the best time of the year: even if only for a little while, we could enjoy the sunshine in the city ❤️.

El clima impredecible de Ushuaia en Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, es algo que también contribuye a su encanto. En toda mi estadía que duró casi seis meses, creo que solo uno o dos días fueron completamente soleados. El resto de ellos, siempre era nublado, con frío, viento y lluvia. Si estas condiciones son en verano, no puedo imaginar lo que será en el invierno. Me alegré de haber estado ahí en la mejor época del año: aunque sea por un rato, pudimos disfrutar del sol de la ciudad ❤️.
