He tells the story of 3 young boys who decide to play a game of dares. The first dare is to sneak into church and find where the sacramental wine is kept and bring out a bottle as proof. The boy who suggests the dare ends up having to do it. I won't spoil the story as it is wonderfully told by the author who excels at children's fiction. Needless to say, this story is about mischief and mayhem in childhood. It's about finding the lines in the sand and being gently guided back on track. A fabulous short story replete with delightful characters. ### @rinconpoetico7 [*The Halloween Challenge*](https://peakd.com/hive-170798/@rinconpoetico7/fiction-the-halloween-challenge-el-reto-de-halloween-enes-3xp) Curator comment: > @rinconpoetico7 writes a Halloween story for the short straw prompt. A group of boys decide to visit old Dorothy's home on Halloween. Whoever draws the short straw has to spend one minute inside the home. The task falls to Jimmy, who enters the yard and waits at the front door for a minute. As he celebrates the successful end to his time, the door opens, and he is pulled inside, where he is confronted by none other than old Dorothy. A well-written piece by @rinconpoetico7, with an ending that has everyone in the story guessing as to what happened, and leaves the reader with a smile. ### @marriot5464 [*The Midnight Wahala*](https://peakd.com/hive-170798/@marriot5464/the-midnight-wahala) Curator comment: > @marriot5464 delights with a very humorous ghost story for the "short straw" prompt. I don't want to give anything away, because this is a must-read story and you need to find out what happens for yourself. But there's nothing like a bunch of college boys hearing a ghost haunting their dorm -- and trying to hide behind one another -- to make me laugh out loud. > Marriott has some excellent storytelling skills, as well as good comedic timing. Now go read the story! Nicely done, writers! ## Fiction Writing Prompt of the Week This week's prompt is: "**Mouse**" A mouse is possibly one of the cutest animals on the planet. But many people are terribly afraid of mice. What if your character moves into a new home and there's a mouse residing there? What if you mouse and the homeowner are equally afraid of one another? Can they find a way to live in peace and harmony? What must life be like from the perspective of a mouse, always seeking crumbs and scraps to eat, and a comfortable place to sleep? It might be fun to write a story in which the narrator is a mouse! When asked to produce two humorous story ideas and a spooky one, ChatGPT provided these three story ideas involving a mouse: 1. “The Cheese Conspiracy” When a paranoid lab mouse becomes convinced that the scientists are replacing real cheese with tofu, he launches a daring escape mission to expose the truth — armed with a paperclip and a grudge. 2. “Squeak Easy” In 1920s Chicago, a jazz-loving mouse runs a secret speakeasy beneath a bakery, but when a rat mobster demands protection cheese, it’s up to him and his flea band to swing their way out of trouble. 3. “The Mouse in the Wall” A couple’s new home seems perfect—until they hear whispers in the walls and find tiny claw marks near their bed.
