Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar System. It consists mainly of the light gases hydrogen and helium. This means that it has no solid surface. The visible surface of the planet is clouds in its outer parts.

Jupiter has four large moons, Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto, which can be easily seen from Earth in small telescopes. Ganymede is the largest moon in the solar system, larger than the planet Mercury.
