The eastern blue-tongued lizard (aka blue-tongue or bluey) is one of the most familiar reptiles in Australia. They are usually grey with dark coloured stripes on their back and tail and of course, their most unique and distinguishing feature is their blue tongue which can range in colour from bright to dark blue.
The natural habitat for Blue-tongues is bushland with lots of cover like tall grasses, leaf litter, rocks and logs however they will happily adapt to urban parks and suburban gardens that provide adequate protection and suitable conditions.
Blue-tongued lizards are considered to be an asset by gardener's since they are very effective in controlling slugs, snails and other garden pests. They are often seen in spring when they come out from their winter homes looking for mates.
