Kuala Lumpur River of Life 吉隆坡母亲河

Kuala Lumpur, the Capital city of Malaysia.

In Malay language, Kuala means the place where two rivers join together or an estuary, while Lumpur means muddy. The rivers refer to Klang River and Gombak River.

At the estuary delta land, there is this ancient mosque Masjid Jamek, which is also the landmark of Kuala Lumpur. This river delta was also place where Yap Ah Loy -The Chinese Captain who developed Kuala Lumpur from muddy swampland, and his tin mining crews landed from tin mine exploration. They travelled upstream from Klang ,days and nights, touched down at this muddy estuary and from here went to Ampang and began the tin mining. Since then, this swampland of river delta developed rapidly and next became the nation's capital.

During high school time, @auleo always took the Len Seng public bus to their terminal and from there, walked to the famous tuition center Kasturi. From the terminal, I always took the short cut at the street alley that is along the river. But the river was very smelly back then and not so good to stay for long.

Recent years, Malaysia government announced the rejuvenate development plan for this river and named it "The river of Life". So happened that this project was handled by one of my friends' company. As such, I always get to know the development updates from the facebook sharing.

But seeing is believing, further more, this place where I am very familiar with. So I decided to revisit this place during the time when I back to Kuala Lumpur.

One of the most important River of Live developments is the building of this bridge, which make tourists easily cross the river to the Masjid Jamek. And also the installation of mist spray along the river (The mist spray at night make the river looks gorgeous)

The area behind the Sultan Abdul Samad Building was a car park , converted to the walking district, and let the travellers to have closer look at this KL landmark.

The old and modern building in Kuala Lumpur. At the background is the KL Tower

The Moorish-style building is the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. I find it very nice under the sunset.

Comparing to 10 years ago, it's a big difference.

During the night time, the mist will cover the river surface, together with the blue lighting turn the river into mystery feeling. The mist also could filter the bad smell from the river - at least could hold the traveller longer and not in rush to run away from the stint.

Although the Kuala Lumpur River of Life is not comparable to Seoul's Cheonggyecheon River. The fishes cant even live in the river but in dedicated tank.

But I do hope this is just the beginning of the better days- everyone works to make this river cleaner , just like the Singapore's Clarke Quay and Seoul's Cheonggyecheon. These rivers were once notorious of the pollution as well, only after the determination of hard works and beautification, makes them what they are today. The better Malaysia is worth to look upon.
