TripFM #58: Ancient Kamiros, Rhodes Island, Greece, 2012 (7 pics)

Kamiros (or Kameiros) is one of the oldest cities in Greece. The ruins of the city are located southwest of the island of Rhodes, here.

In the era of Antiquity, Kamiros played a huge role in the history of the island of Rhodes and today its ruins are recognized as an archaeological reserve.

The Ancient Kamiros is attractive not only for their historical value and the surrounding nature, but also a mystery: researchers have not yet figured out why once the inhabitants left the city.

The territory of the city is clearly divided into three levels: market square, houses of citizens, and on the top of the hill once were palaces and temples.

The hill offers magnificent views of the Aegean sea and the many olive groves surrounding the city.

Ancient Kamiros made a strong impression on me.
This is a must-see place where you really going to feel the spirit of the distant past.
