SDCC - San Diego Comic Con - I am going!

I'm finally able to say that I'll be at SDCC - 2018!

I registered myself for a table in the 'artist alley' but they have tons of people who apply and they also try to focus on quality.. So it is really hard to get a table.. You need to have a bit of luck to get in!

And lucky for me!.. I got in! :)

About 1 year ago I found the courage to go out to these comic-con things as an artist.. I never went as a normal visitor so I had no idea what to expect..
The first Con I went to was a small one in 'Rotterdam'.. I had no idea so I bought a ton of prints.. invested almost a €1000 with the idea that I really didn't want to run out of prints when everyone bought one...

Well.. Not quite.. I think in total in 2 days I sold 8 prints.. about €80 in total.. So that was quite disappointing..

6 months later I went to the biggest comic-con in The Netherlands 'Dutch Comic Con'.. I barely had to invest any since i still had so many prints left from the previous con.. This one had to be better or I would pretty much be at the point of just writing it off in total and never go to any cons anymore!

Well.. It did go a little better I made about €750 but deducting the price of the table (€350) i was left with little profit indeed.. especially looking back at the previous investment! :)
But this con was a lot more fun.. More people seemed interested in my work and I got to talk to a lot more people.. I would've probably been better off setting up a booth with 'artist career advice' since that was pretty much the only subject ever discussed.. :D

Since this con went quite a bit better I was fairly motivated to try it another time.. 3rd time a charm right? :) I would try to get a table at the second biggest con ( still very very small compared to SDCC ) in The Netherlands 'Amsterdam Comic-Con'.. I got a table in the artist alley (€200) and had some extra prints printed as some more popular once sold out during the previous con.
The total investment was about €300 and the con would be 2 days..
The people coming to this con where people that were just going for a visit.. to take a look at what the fuss was all about.. it was filled with 'tourists' that didn't come to the con to buy or collect things.. So in 2 days time I sold a couple of prints and maybe broke even.

I was done with Con's..

If i was to do another Con it would be the big Dutch Comic-Con one or nothing at all..
Then someone mentioned to me that SDCC was open for registration but it was fairly hard to get in..
I thought to myself I could atleast try.. And if I do get in.. I have a great excuse to travel to the US and go to the Comic Con where it all started and have a little vacation while I'm there!

I registered and lucky as I am.. I got selected to be in the Artist Alley! :)
I'll be at the con from July 18 to the 22nd 2018!

It is still quite a long time to go but it will give me time to prepare.. I already started with some new images that I could sell as prints and am trying to get a little sketchbook printed..

I did make the decision that whatever happens.. I'm not going there to sell or break even.. I'm going there for the experience and hopefully meet a bunch of awesome people!

Some of the prints I plan to bring (though I have to figure out how the rules are regarding copyright/IP during the con)

I'm going to try and share the road to SDCC with you all on steemit, the preparations, the traveling and all the new work I will try to make before actually heading of to San Diego!
So if you want to stay up to date.. @beekart <- Follow! :)

Hope to meet some of you people there!

Thank you
Greetings
