Developing an Artistic Collaboration: Case Study
Creating
I think the fundamental way to be able to create something for a career is by creating. That sounds really dry and stupid, but true. The more you make or try to make of something you want to be doing for a job, the better you will bet at it and in turn will receive more work from that. I had started making art of people's products just for a creative outlet only to find fruitful outcomes.
Alfred's Tea Shop
Alfred Tea Room is a little shop I have been to a few times in LA. The logo is stylized and hand drawn looking with deer antlers on the A of Tea. The color theme is most definitely pink.
The Art

I found this collaboration through seeing their aesthetic on Instagram. After that I decided to create a piece of art of one of their promo photos. I loved the pink and gold combination. What I think sells their products the best is the different flavors and branding colors.
After I painted them, they noticed me and have been working on collaborations together. It goes to show that just reaching out may not be as good as creating something proactively to show someone. It does develop interest and it shows a time investment that is valuable to a future collaborator. If they hire you in the future, they may have a lasting impression that goes this person didn't just email us, they did something that was really cool and we know they will be able to keep doing that for us. So let's hire them!
I guess this is a story I would tell myself again and again that the oddest gigs come from the oddest places. You can't predict your future, and if you could it would be boring. The best things in my career have come unexpected.
Steemians, what do you think of this idea?
