No Rule of Thirds (Part X)
I drew this image entirely zoomed in. It's based on nobody in particular. I wanted to do a Super-Ultra-Close-Up. It was a weird challenge painting off the edge of the page and trying to make it feel like the image continues beyond.
The Rule
So what exactly is the rule of thirds? The rule of thirds is a general guide to help in the process of composing visual images. It states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts with two horizontal and two vertical lines equally spaced. Important compositional elements should be on the lines or in the intersections of the lines for greatest composition.
Why does the rule of thirds matter? For this post, it doesn't.
Proponents of the technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject.
