Don't Gossip

Getting information from the highest authority.
Origin:
Derived from horse racing tips, the jokey or trainer has the truest information regarding the quality of the horse. Straight from the horses mouth means getting information from the source. I've always thought this saying meant don't gossip, don't use 3rd party information regarding news or judging a situation or a person's character. I looked up the saying and found the orgin came from horse racing.
