I made this drawing from memory, such type of drawing are called imaginative drawings, their are other types of drawings such as still life drawing, landscape drawing, life drawing, but i would talk about the imaginative drawing represented above by a ballpoint pen.
To start with imaginative drawing could be so challenging, especially when an individual is not familiar with the image he or she is trying to draw from the mind.
It also get more critical and challenging if such artist were to use ballpoint pen
But i will explain few steps that could help when pulling out great images raw from the mind to a plain paper.
Firstly. Try and be familiar with the major features of the image you are drawing, much recall and attention on the mind would be needed, hence its adviceable for an artist to locate his or her studio or get a quiet place that could help in proper focus,
After get all drawing materials ready, like for mine i was set with my paper and pen relaxed and all i could see is to view a plain room in my mind. Guess what was before me in my mind set , a butterfly and a flower. Now to apply originality and beauty to the art, i try to create a scene in my mind of the butterfly on the petals of the flower, showcasing pollination. Now i captured the right scene to use, hence determined and focused on that i made a quick sketch with respect to what i am seeing in my mind then after i shaded all areas to bring life and a bit of reality to the drawing.
Now their is something on the paper from memory. The second step is how to apply life to the sketch to make it look real by applying value with shades, shadow, light, all these makes an art work more beautiful than just being represented as a skeleton sketch , but all this must be at relevant places of the sketch
NOW CONSIDERATION OF THE SECTIONS OF THE SKETCH
This area of the butterfly i applied genuity to it by recalling that a butterfly should have three section the head the thorax and the abdomen also the legs must be shaded well with a split of light at some area , i view the butterfly and the flower as black and white because it makes it easy for me to work with the black side as my blue ink and the white side same, hence the body of the butterfly was tinted blue and white and its wings same
This section of the butterfly is the wing, i make sure some are light and some deep shaded because its the area of the wings. Most wings of insects and mostly flies are always light and a bit transparent, so to achieve this i did a bit of pointilism and shade to light blur to make it realistic and the dark sides to give more reference to the white areas to make it outlined
The last section i would like to discuss are the petals of the flower, to make the flower more realistic i applied the effect of possible light effect on the petals as illustrated above, at the main sketch their is a shadow of the butterly on the flower and possibly the wings must have given some shade to the flower, hence an area of light would be logically and artistically beautiful to reflect a bit far from the butterfly on the petals to make it beautiful, that was what resulted to the light areas.
Now a view of the imagivative drawing showing the effect of light and dark shading
I present to you Rf pen art. Showing a re- detailing of sections and application of scribbling, contour hatching, cross hatching and blur shade to beautify an imaginative scene
