Vienna Dream. 60x80cm. Oil and egg tempera. 2015.
Here is a few pics that show the process of the creation of this painting.
I spent four and a half months in Vienna during the whole winter between 2014 and 2015.
This one was painted in this time. The summer before I had been taught the Mischtechnique by Professor Phil Rubinov ( http://www.rubinovs-lightning.com/) and I spent the entire winter using this technique to my own way. I never start with an idea or initial drawing, so mine comes from smudges and builds up from there.
Over a dry red ground emulsion playing with black ink, finding shapes.

Applying white egg tempera and gold leaf...

Oil colour on white egg tempera, coats of each.

more oil colour and egg tempera

Then just more and more till it feels just right...

I know it´s not really Vienna for those who know her, there seems to be an oriental component in this painting but for me it has an essence I feel from the city in winter. A city gestating it´s explosive enery. Life happening inside all those lit up windows, The Danube, The Secession memory of the past...an old place with an unusual collective subconscious.
I love this city.
The day I stepped in it, it felt so familiar, I had always known this place.
Best Wishes,
Romanie
