Treasures in the mud

It is really hard to believe, but people basically THROW these amazing art works away. My husband attended our little local auction on Saturday and after a week of good rain the auction premises were a little muddy. One lot lying in the mud were these gorgeous South African original oil paintings. Two of the paintings were also known South African artists. My husband paid R20 ($1,39) for all three. Less than the price of my favourite Wimpy coffee!

This painting measures 91cm/61cm and is signed AA Kloppers.

Signed S Gibson, measures 55cm/35cm

SG Popoff, quite a well known South African artist. Also measures 55cm/35cm

We gently wiped the mud off, and the paintings were pristine. I have listed all three for a total starting price of R1750 ($122). It is beyond my understanding that nobody else bid on them?! Fortunately for us, this is a common occurrence. Paintings are not sought after at general auctions, but we do well with selling them online.

Thank you for reading, and hopefully giving the art the appreciation it deserves! Please follow me @onetree
