If you came in Croatia as a tourist, then you probably don't want to drink same beer, wine or heavy alcohol drinks that you can buy in your own country. You should try something domestic. And it is not hard to find these drinks, you don't need to go in the market for it. Just walk trough the street of some village and look for the house with sing like this one:

Vino - Wine - Almost everybody in Dalmatia has his own little vineyard. There are vineyards everywhere, by the road, on the islands, on the hills. The wine is practically grow from a crack in the rock. Dalmatian wine has history dating back in the time of Ancient Greece. Many of these old varieties are still here. Red wine, white wine, our own varieties of grapes without adding any sugar in it. We don't do that. You will love Dalmatian wine , but be sure that you are buying domestic wine directly from the producer, not a factory made wine!
Prošek - This is Dalmatian dessert wine, so it is not made for getting wasted with it but, sure, it is very possible.
Rakija - Rakia - This is fruit brandy popular in whole Balkans. It has very high percentage of alcohol and it is colorless and strong. In other parts of Croatia they make it from the plums, but here, in Dalmatia, we make it from grapes. One of the most popular "rakijas" here is a herbal "rakija" that we call "travarica". Well, it is really made to make us all drunk and happy, so we drink it from shooters but fast. First few shots could be very bitter and strong to a beginner, but later, they are just like water.

Where to drink?
If you bought some wine or "rakia" from some villagers, they will offer you to have few shots for free! Don't refuse that, these people are proud of their hospitality and they will offer to you some domestic ham or cheese to eat. Probably, you will note leave their home sober. Then, so directly on the beach with your bottles. If someone brought a guitar, that would be perfect. If police comes, they won't punish you for drinking on public place. This is Dalmatia and everybody is doing it. In many other countries, people drink in parks, here we have beaches for that.
How to drink?
This is the best way to drink Dalmatian beverages:
- First, have a quick shot of "rakija".
- Then, have a glass of wine!
- Then have a shot of "rakija".
- Then, a glass of wine!
- Then, another shot of "rakija"!
- Another glass of wine!
