Today I again tried to make video about our pets. And again I was not good in it :( Although @ertinfagor showed me how to make a video, I again got confused about which buttons to press. But after all I did a short small video. I also made some photos.
This is Beak. Beak got into our shelter very little. He was found in the suburbs of Kiev very weak and sick. It was already completely covered with sponges and he had no chance to survive without the help of people. Most likely, parents threw him out of the nest.
It must be said that adult storks get to our shelter very rarely. Mostly these are chicks, which parents refused from them. Why is this happening?
Storks are very caring parents. While the chicks are small, adult storks do not leave them alone. If one of the parents went for hunting, the other one always stays in the nest at this time, ready to protect the chicks and watch that they do not drop out of the nest.
This seems extremely strange, considering the care and love of storks for their chicks, that they sometimes throw out of the nest one of the chicks, condemning it to death.
We can conclude that the chick did not drop out of the nest accidentally if all attempts to return him to the nest are unsuccessful: parents again throw him away.
The reasons can be different. Sometimes parents do so because of the lack of food, when they realize that they can not feed the entire brood. Also parents throw away weak and sick chicks. So natural selection works in nature. Is it good that people help chicks that parents "rejected"? It is difficult to answer this question uniquely. We have different experiences. Some chicks grow and then live a natural way. Some remain with us forever.
