Today I spent some time adding a texture to the surface of the ship as well as the gun to the gun turret at the back of the ship. Below is the ship yesterday without the textures for the ships surface added. I also darkened the background and added a few stars, adding stars is very easy as it's an option where you just tick a box.
Once happy with the ships suface I then added a cockpit which is basically a tube with the center point of the front extruded. The whole ship is made up of tubes with parts extruded to make the fins and wings. Jupiter (in the background) is a large sphere that is smoothed and then a jpeg image of the planet added from a collection of images and textures on my computer.
