A few posts ago in this series I showed Hildebrandt illustration for Rivendell, now it's time for another elfes valley - Lorien:
This time it looks much closer to my own impression from the valley. It really has to have these big trees, touching sky with their leaves and branches. Well, in my head Rivendell also has to have them:)
By the way, Tim Hildebrandt didn't share my oppinion even about his own work. He said:
-"OK, Lorien is a quintessence of beauty and piece. But it always seemed to me that the trees on our drawing remind a nuclear mushroom".
Rarely we csn see on the illustrations the whole fellowship. Without Gandalf, who was lost on the previous drawing.
