Or should I better say: Pulau Pinang. Because there I do living. The state Pinang is located in the west of Malaysia and not far away from Thailand. Till Hat-Yai Thailand it takes only 5 hours with the car to arrive there.
The most people may have heard of Butterworth and Georgetown?
Butterworth is the part of Penang onshore and Georgetown lays on Pulau Pinang. Pulau stands for island, translated from Bahasa Melayu. Bahasa means language and Bahasa Melayu is the official language.
Congratulations, you - the reader just now did learn two new words of a foreign language.

Even the island is more than Georgetown, everybody does connect Georgetown with it. But that's no surprise because Georgetown is a hotspot for tourists.

In future blog posts, i plan to write more about the traffic, people and points of interests. (And everything else that crossing my mind and could be a post worth.) Ah yes, and the topic food should not be missing.
By the way, the word people is a good keyword. In Malaysia coming different cultures and religions together to existing in coexistence. In general, at least in Penang, religion is important so it would not be difficult to find a place of worship. Somewhere you will always find a temple for Buddhists or Hindus, a church or mosque.

And this mix of cultures makes it possible to try varieties of food. My favourite food is Mee Kongfu (Mee – noodles) a Chinese inspired meal and Roti Canai (Roti =bread) something from the Indians.
But back to the island.
Connected is Pulau Pinang by a bridge with the onshore. The Penang Bride is round about 13KM long and the Second Penang Bridge ca. 16KM. And don't forget to pay the toll first before crossing the bridge.

A very short video. Ride over the Penang Bridge
On the east side of the island, you have a high population. While the west side is still kind of empty, to cover all with buildings becoming a serious problem on the east side. Too many cars and when strong rain appears there will be always a flood. No wonder, where the water should go through all the cement and asphalt.
In the middle of the island, you find some hills or should I say mountains that split west and east. The east providing more nature and ricefield, but I believe, that doesn't last long. Because Georgetown is full.

Let me know in the comments if you ever been in Penang and if yes, how was it?
Just for fun the used foreign words:
Pulau - Island
bahasa - Language
Mee - Nudels
Roti – Bread
The last thing:
Meanwhile, I did change my apartment. From the old apartment, i got a very nice view of the Penang airport, from the kitchen window.
