Discord is a chat application separate from Steemit that's rapidly becoming the standard for instant messaging instead of chat and other services like Facebook. You'll want to join anyway because there are over 100 Discord Servers related to Steemit and some give away FREE UPVOTES, have contests and let you promote your posts.
You'll also find a better selection of content and real live people who answer you back.
