The big match this Cinco De Mayo weekend took place and Canelo Alvarez won a clear and easy unanimous decision win over Chavez Jr.
In spite of having the advantage in height and size, Chavez fought timidly and let Canelo back him up and out jab him. Chavez had only a small number of instances he where landed anything effective, whereas Canelo landed the only clean shots to the head and body, showing a good defense himself.
The fight itself was fairly entertaining, but the real highlight came immediately after the match ended.
Middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and his trainer Abel Sanchez were in attendance, and came to the ring to tell the crowd that these two would officially be squaring off in september.

This is the match that fight fans have been waiting over a year for, and now it’s finally going to happen.
I’m excited to see a deal get made, at least it happened quicker than the 5 or 6 years it took for Mayweather vs Pacquiao to finally get signed.
I don’t know who to pick in GGG vs Canelo this point, it’s still 50/50. GGG is a beast but Canelo always does better against punchers than against boxers/movers. Will Golovkin’s pressure play right into the hands of Canelo’s awesome counter punching? We shall see soon, and I anticipate a much more exciting fight than Canelo’s shutout over Chavez this weekend.
