Cervantes Magazine Number 25: Desynchronized News

What if time didn’t exist? What if that invention we call time was not a part of our lives? What if everything we have believed until today was revealed to us as wrong?

If that strange invention to our primitive minds named as “time” did not exist, we would be as free as we aspire to be and even more.

We live believing with vehemence that time is something we can measure, something that is magically attached on all things. We think that life is a river that runs without remission over the course of time. We think it is something solid, stable, unbreakable, eternal. That is why all our actions revolve around it, as if it were the god of reality. A god that we feed with constant sacrifices we offer day after day, sustaining the vain illusion that at some point it will slow down and give us a glimpse of control. But it is not like that.

And it's not like that for a simple reason, time does not exist. It is nothing more than a desperate attempt to order everything that happens in our lives. A classification of events that our primitive mind needs to keep us standing. If we were to realize that time is not such, our minds would probably not accept it and would collapse beyond repair.

Our lives, our understanding of the world and our language are completely submerged in temporal terms:

Today, yesterday, tomorrow, now, after, soon, still, etc.

We would not be able to understand life, to communicate with others, not even with ourselves, without availing ourselves of these concepts that are permanently present in our inner dialogue.

Time is only a feature within the fabric of the universe, the space-time fabric. A matter made of everything and nothing that gravity shapes at will, causing the most crazy effects.

Don’t be fooled. Time is treacherous, you can’t trust it because it is nothing more than a deception of your minds. Did you know that if you synchronize two watches and take one to the top of Everest and the other to the seashore, the values you will obtain will be different? Did you know that if you put one of those clocks inside an object that is in motion, your readings will have delays when compared to the clock that is at rest? Did you know that if you travel several years through space and return to Earth, you would be younger than your twin brother?

So, why do you trust time if you don’t even understand it? You base your life, your existence, in something that you are not able to understand and also do it blindly, clenching your teeth.

You believe that time is linear because your mind thinks linearly and you can’t understand the world in a different way, but you are wrong. Time is nothing more than the shackles you have invented in order to understand what your lack of freedom consists of.

Time does not exist, but you do.
