I have taken over a dozen road trips across the country - by myself or with significant others. It is the reason I ended up living in New Mexico rather than Baltimore, where I grew up. The vastness of the terrain, its other-worldly beauty, the huge skies, the incredibly unusual flora - all appeal to me.
There are many pueblos, reservations and tribal areas. On route 40/66 heading west, before you get to Flagstaff, you arrive in Twin Arrows.
First, there is a casino to the right, the subject of which had raised debates in the Native American community as well as surrounding neighborhoods (in states like Michigan and New York). In the west, most casinos are away from residences. Well, at least in Arizona and New Mexico. I’m not a casino expert.
Then, to the left, is the original Twin Arrows trading post (closed now), which my image depicts.
People, including Native Americans, use the term Native Americans and Indians. I switch back and forth though I guess I use Native American more, as seen here.
