Scarves and Hats and Things

This is my scarf and hat section for my crochet. I threw in a sweater I made as well..... but it's mostly scarves/hats. I have done many others, but these have a few fun stitches in them. One of my favorite stitches is the Back Post DC. When it's done right, this ends up looking like a knitted product. To get this effect on a hat, it's just straight BPDC all the way around in a circle, top to bottom. To get the knitted effect on a flat item, you have to also include the FRONT Post DC. No where near as fun or an easy stitch in my opinion! But it looks really good. (BTW, on an infinity scarf, you would just need the BPDC since you're crocheting in a round). I will mention errors I made on one of these. Errors are an important part of learning and I think it's beneficial for new crocheters to see that even people who have been crocheting a while (I've been crocheting for 30 years) make mistakes....

This was one of my first attempts at an infinity scarf and a matching hat. All of this was done w the BPDC. It's kind of hard to tell, but the top of the hat is more the solid knit look, but the bottom (since it's flipped up) is the ribbed side. The scarf is primarily showing the ribbed side, but again, it's hard to tell. I'll be honest, I hate using patterns because they confuse me. So all of these are done out of my playing around.

I had noticed that some infinity scarves weren't doubled up. So I just attemtped a longer infinity scarf. This is again the BPDC and I used a bit bigger crochet hook. I can actually make a scarf and hat in less than a days time. It takes me something like 4-6 hours to do both. Well, when I'm using normal yarn and a bit bigger crochet needle. If I have to use a smaller yarn, a 100% cotton yarn for example, I also have to use a smaller hook. So it takes a lot longer.

This is my first attempt at a connected hat and scarf. I'm not 100% sure what stitch I used. It might have been a DC, but I think I actually had to mix stitches to get it to line out right.

This is a BPDC with sparkly yarn (unfortunately the sparkly didn't pick up well in the photo). This is not a verigated yarn, I used a blue yarn and a white yarn together (same brand so everything stayed consistent).

If this was not THE FIRST infinity scarf I made, then it was the second. This was made with a super bulky yarn. I believe I used a blanket hook to make this one. It MIGHT have been the hook my husband made me. It's amazing how difficult it is to find a hook that will crochet super bulky yarn!!!!

This is a standard yarn using a mediumish hook. Its the knit looking side of a BPDC. I actually made this for a blind homeless patient that we had when I worked at the hopital. He was in the hospital during Christmas and had no family or friends. So I made this for him. I did it to help him out because he was going to be out in the cold again. He appreciated it so much he started crying. I wasn't expecting that.....

This is one of my favorite looking stitches, but It can be kind of a pain in the tucas. This is one of the stiches that you have to alternate between BPDC and FPDC and you have to make sure you line everything up correctly. Now, crocheting it in the round makes it a BIT easier to line up, but you still have to be careful.

This is yet another BPDC stitch. The fuzzy yarn was not all that easy to work with and the "hair" kept flying in the air and making my nose itch!

Sooooo... I'm not sure exactly which stitch this was. I THINK it was the Popcorn Stitch. If you haven't noticed, I had a LOT of this yarn! Michael's was discontinuing this yarn and had it on sale for 1.50 a skein. I bought everything they had left...

This was my first attempt at completing a sweater. I had previously tried to make one off of a pattern, but never got it finished because I got way too confused. So this one is based on a pattern I had in my head. The fron is a waffle stitch with BPDC at the bottom. The back (which you obviously can't see) is just BPDC. Unfortunately this ended up being way too big for me (a potential hazard when you have boobs) so I had to take it up a bit. Also unfortunately, I only took it up on one side not realizing that it would make it a bit lopsided. And just so you know, I'm wearing a white cami tank underneath. You just can't tell.

Not sure... possibly a DC with a large hook...

For anyone who can find the patience to crochet, I hope you see that there can be some really cool stitches out there. These are just a few. I personally learned all of these on YouTube.
