Dragon Drawing by my Daughter - entry for the Dragon Art Contest

Dragon Drawing by my daughter, Skyylar - for @kristyglas's Dragon Art Contest

My (almost 10-year-old) daughter has been obsessed with dragons lately.  She has read all nine books in Tui T. Sutherland's "Wings of Fire" book series, and is impatiently waiting for the tenth book to come out later this month (I think next week!).  When she was reading stuff online over my shoulder yesterday, she saw the Dragon Art Contest, and decided she wanted to enter.

At first she tried drawing a dragon from her imagination.  It turned out like this:

She wasn't happy with how it looked.  So, she decided to look at the books for reference.

She drew this dragon based on a combination of some of the different species of dragons in the books.  So, it's her own new kind of dragon.  She named it "Nickili" (pronounced Ni-Kee-Lee).

I'm pretty impressed with her drawing, but not surprised.  Art pretty much runs in our family. She and my older daughter are both turning into great artists.  My mom would be amazed!  (My mom passed away in 2002, and was an excellent artist.)

She used my Prismacolor pencils (which she's not really supposed to use, but I'll let it slide this time.)

Not sure if kids are allowed to enter this contest, but thought we'd give it a try.  ;)
