Dragon Doodle

I just couldn’t resist the doodle challenge by @opheliafu .

The challenge is to combine dream, cyber and sci-fi into 1 doodle. So obviously I drew a dragon ^^

Also I still plan to post on Sunday!

Lets begin

I started with the head, I just place a circle on the page and from there I drew the rest. Usually I plan the composition and proportions, but this time I just started with all the details. This way it feels more loose and fun, while keeping the drawing time short. I drew it in my A5 size sketchbook.

I’m not used to drawing robots, so the mechanical parts here don’t make any sense. I just drew them to look cool.

I finished the pencil sketch in around 15 minutes and inked it in another 15. It took me a total of 30 minutes.
So after the pencil sketch I used a 0.1 pigment ink pen and followed the pencil drawing, with no changes to the design.

Afterwards I used IG1 and IG3 Promarkers to do the main shading.
Grey Promarkers are awesome for me, because they are translucent and different shades can be combined for more a drawing more realistic.

After shading I used a 0.4 pigment ink pen, to accentuate the lines in the shadows. This makes it look more dimensional.
In the end I also decided to fill the circuit board areas on the dragon with the markers, to make the dragon look less washed out, and for a nice balance.

Finished Doodle!

Mega Dragon- a sentient robot created with technology and a dan of magick (unicorn horn powder). A loyal and wise companion.
