ELAmental's Earth Deed of the Day - Reusing/Sharing A Half Piece of Paper Towel

The trimming of cannabis does not have to be as wasteful of a process as many make it. There are so many ways trimmers and the growers that oversee them can minimize waste.

One of the ways I have found to reduce the amount of waste in the trim room, is to re-use the same paper towel over and over again, to wipe my scissors clean of the rubbing alcohol that rids the blades of hash. Hash buildup on trimming scissors gums up your strokes, and makes the blades stick. Only dipping them in isopropyl alcohol or cooking oil for an extended time, and wiping them clean, will renew your blades to where they become usable again.

I noticed many trimmers change their wiping paper towel multiple times a day, which is completely unnecessary. I chose to lead by example, and use the same half piece of paper towel (pictured above) for a full week! Not only that, but I also shared this dirty half piece with @hempress the entire time, which doubled our resourcefulness, and decreased our impact on the environment by 1/8.

After documenting this, I then asked myself, "Hey, @ELAmental, how can you improve upon this?" Well the answer I summoned was obvious, bring a washable, reusable rag to work for the two of us. This will allow zero waste for this part of the process, and only add one more little rag to our laundry basket, which is in no way going to use any more energy to clean in our loads. This way, both of us can use the same rag indefinitely, and maybe switch it with a freshly washed one while that one is being cleaned. The rag should also last several weeks before cleaning is required.

This is the rag I am bringing in tomorrow for our scissor cleaning needs

There are a few more things I do when trimming to reduce my carbon footprint, which I will be reporting on throughout the week. I am also going to release this weeks Earth Deeds contest within the next day or two, and will update here with a link when I do.

In the mean time, I just launched another logo design contest for @EarthTribe, that will likely generate another hefty rewards pool. If you are an artist, or know one - please click here to visit the entry article for more info.

What is EARTH DEEDS? - In each weekly contest, I highlight/promote the top entries, and give away a 15% @TribeSteemUp up-vote first place prize, courtesy of @kennyskitchen, to the post that has the greatest positive environmental impact.

Description:

"Recently I have been writing about how I help the Earth in my every day life in little ways that add up. Usually I just live my life, and do these things without really talking about it much, but writing about it on Steemit and the amazing feedback that has been generated, has inspired me to continue writing about how I reduce my carbon footprint in my every day life. My recent realizations through these sharing experiences, has also granted me awareness of the importance of publishing my strides for living in better harmony with the Earth, no matter how small of a difference I think I have made.
Today I challenge everyone to start documenting their Earth conscious efforts on Steemit in a short post AT LEAST once a week. The more of us that show the rest of the world how easy it is to help the environment, the more people will also start taking action in their every day lives, and the impact you have with your otherwise "small" eco-friendly actions, will become even greater". ~ @ELAmental

Blessings everyone - let's continue to manifest a better world together.
