Cyling is becoming our family tradition

"We have had bicycles since 2014 and we use our biycles as a means of transportation, recreation, exercise, and sports. Bicycling together as a family fortifies the love we share and has added more unity among us, and has helped us to save a lot of money from transportation. It has greatly reduced our carbon footprint." Mr. Green 2018

What is bicycling and how beneficial is cycling?

Cycling, also called bicycling or biking, is the use of bicycles for transport, recreation, exercise or sport.It is widely regarded as a very effective and efficient mode of transportation very optimal for short to moderate distances.

Besides being a healthy physical exercise, bicycling provides numerous benefits such as easier parking, increased maneuverability, and access to roads, bike paths and rural trails. It offers a reduced consumption of fossil fuels, less air or noise pollution, and much reduced traffic congestion. These lead to less financial cost to the user as well as to society at large (negligible damage to roads, less road area required).

This week cycling

This week, my kids and I visited a lot of friends in our neighborhood using our bikes. We visited my classmate and friend who is a medical doctor, my elder sister and one of my friends who is a cargo driver. We also had a chance to visit one of my landscaping clients to check how his flowers, fruit trees and shrubs were doing. Besides the business and friends visits, we had the chance to do a small tour round our community. Bicycling with me were my 9 years old son (Frank-Kightley), 5 years old daughter (Kahlan-Amnell) and my elder sister’s 5 years old son (Marvelous-Miguel). If we didn't have bicycles, we would need at least $10 to go to all the places we have been to this week with our bicycles

Why bike with family?

I bike with my children because i want to teach them that biking is healthy and environmentally friendly. By biking with my children, i get to spend more time and have fun with my children meanwhile they also get the opportunity to learn about the different places in our community. Biking with them teaches them to be steady and focused as well as how to be careful, responsible and smart to navigate the difficult trails. The exercise helps to reduce the time my kids spend on digital devices as well as gives us enough time to talk and spend time together as a family.I believe my children will grow up to become environmentally conscious and do more biking and walking than driving as well as spend more time with people than technology.
