#GreenActivity of the Week
The Greens' Journey through the "Creative Environmental Leaders Program" to become a certified Creative Organization
In December 2015 some volunteers (Mr. Green and Stan the Man) of The Greens participated in the Creative Action Institute’s Creative Leadership Course. In September 2016, they participated in the Creative Facilitation Course.
From the 14 – 19th of May 2018, volunteers of The Greens (Mr. Green - Founder/Executive Director of The Greens (@dukefranky) and Tubuo Laura (@laurakiss)) have had the opportunity to polish and certify their creativity by completing the Creative Collaboration and Systems thinking courses which were facilitated by Aryeh Shell and Portia Bansa from Creative Action Institute (Creative Environmental Leaders Program)
CAI?
Creative Action Institute (CAI) works are the intersection of creativity and social change. They build the capacity of leaders of organizations for innovation, collaboration and resilience to advance conservation, health and human rights globally.
The 5 Days Training
For five days, we have had the opportunity to fine tune our leadership, facilitation, collaboration and systems thinking skills and can now confidently say we are creative leaders and facilitators after having completed the Creative Environmental Leaders Program of Creative Action Institute.
What were the objectives of our training?
Day 1
Day 1 of our training started with the production of our creative name tags, self introductions, and presentation of our five days program as well as creative expressions.
After our coffee break, we had our first training session that focused on collaboration.
Collaboration is an essential tool to ensure efficiency and productivity. We broke in 5 groups and did 5 great skits that demonstrated different aspects of collaboration that included Trust, Shared goal, Accountability, Effective Communication and Full Participation.
After lunch break, we worked as individuals to develop our personal stories after which we paired in groups of two to share and then share our different experiences as a big group.
Day 1 which started as early as 08:00AM ended at 05:00PM. We had about two hours before our dinner which was used for swimming.
Day 2
For Day 2, we learned creative strategies that can be applied to cultivate group collaboration, develop more effective communication skills and increase mutual understanding and appreciation. We also learned about the 4D cycle of Appreciative Inquiry.
Day 3
Day 3 started with presentations of group work from Day 2 wherein the different groups demonstrated their dreams of environmentalism in Cameroon. Our group presented an environmental poem of the future of environmentalism in Cameroon. I shall bring the poem to you next week Tuesday. Our vision for Cameroon can be summarized in the picture below;
This exercise marked the end of the creative Collaboration Training and the beginning of the Creative Systems Training which began with group work activities wherein we explored what systems are and then compared the Living System vs the Mechanical system.
Days 4 and 5
These days were dedicated to effectively understanding systems wherein we carried out a lot of activities on Systems thinking, Systems Paradigms, Collaborative living systems, Belief systems, how to reframe the message and activities on sustainability.
It was soo much fun learning with 40 Environmental leaders drawn from 17 Environmental organizations from accross Cameroon and it was great connecting with the great minds.
At last, @thegreens is now a certified Creative Organization that is ready to mobilize, educate and engage young people to advocate and act for the environment.
On Monday, we celebrate our certificates and its then that we shall let you know some of the creative services we can offer.
