A lot went through my head upon learning that Donald J. Trump is to be the next president of the United States. I tried to take my VR headset off a few times before realizing it was on the desk next to me. I googled to see if it was some sort of reality TV prank. I am still sort of dumbfounded that this happened.
But the more I thought about it, the more it began to make sense. I don't know if it was simply hindsight being 20/20, the mind constructing a narrative after the fact to make sense of the world. You'll be the judge of that.
Obviously, the biggest factor was the DNC's blackmailing and sabotage of Bernie Sanders' campaign. A lot of people rightly felt betrayed and refused to vote for Hillary because she was not the peoples' choice, but the establishment's choice being foisted on us.
There was also a great deal going on culturally in the run up to this election, however, which alienated white male voters. The Social Justice movement had grown sufficiently large and bold that it felt safe making some pretty reprehensible statements.
Googling Kill White Men will turn up page after page of results. #Killallmen was an extremely popular hashtag for a while. Tumblr is replete with celebrations of white, male genocide as a concept, with utopia as the anticipated result.
Subreddit Tumblr In Action contains no shortage of documented instances in which Social Justice Warriors proposed the extermination of all white people, all men, or all white men, depending which subset they were most angry with at the moment.
Feeling emboldened by Barack Obama's reelection, as if the DNC would hold power forever, they really let the ugly out. Really unloaded and showed the world their true colors, secure in their belief that no white man or conservative would ever again hold the office of President of the United States, and that the future belonged to Social Justice.
So secure in this imagined future were they, that when men objected to being threatened with murder, the response was mockery. To drink their tears, to make them out as whiners pretending to be oppressed rather than ordinary people who understandably do not approve of proposals that they be exterminated.
Complaints through official channels against, for example, a college "diversity officer" who tweeted "kill all white men" fell on deaf ears. The diversity officer kept her post, affirming that the academic establishment was behind her, and onboard with the Social Justice movement no matter how obscene its rhetoric might become.
Not only was academia complicit, but most media outlets as well. When a Republican congressman asked for clarification on the type of rape being discussed, it was misrepresented as denial that rape is real. Meanwhile Social Justice Warriors on Tumblr define rape as everything from kissing someone, to cheating, to catcalling.
Googling "male tears" will likewise return a litany of insulting images which mock male pain and alienation. A foolish and arrogant direction to go in which makes sense only if one assumes it is guaranteed that the future is dominated by Social Justice ideology, and we've just not gotten there yet.
The foot soldiers of this obnoxious, hurtful movement were put up to it by their professors of sociology, women's studies and other subsets of critical theory. They were thoroughly led to believe that their victory was guaranteed.
Believing without question that they represent all that is good, pure and decent in the world and that their enemies (principally white males who identify with the gender they were assigned at birth) are inhuman monsters who exist only to be destroyed. In their minds, they'd already won, so they behaved accordingly.
Well, now the chickens have come home to roost. A Trump presidency is the consequence of carelessly shitting from a great height upon every white man regardless of the contents of his heart or how he votes, simply because of his ethnicity and gender.
A great many men whose values align at least somewhat with various causes of the Social Justice movement were pushed away in this fashion, and undoubtedly some of them fled right into the eager, open arms of the alt right.
"What does it matter if we upset some white men here and there? They have it coming anyway, and it's not like we need their support. We're on the right side of history, so we can't possibly lose" must've been more or less how their reasoning went. Indifferent alienation of potential supporters under the arrogant assumption that the history of their triumph has already been written.
If you cannot physically destroy your opponents, humiliating them as intensely as possible under the assumption that it will break their spirit (rather than motivate them more fiercely than ever to get out and vote for whoever they think will retaliate most effectively) is a poor strategy indeed. This is why in antiquity, young males from a conquered people were slain, lest they seek revenge as adults.
We have all reaped what the Social Justice movement has sown. A Trump presidency, validating every international stereotype of America as a country and the people residing therein.
Those who professed to be advocates of gentleness employed such astonishing cruelty in pursuit of their goals, they should hardly be surprised when the outcome was that cruelty won out over gentleness at the polls. When you put cruelty into the world, it only produces more.
