The house was quiet in the background. Silence reigned as the only sounds to be heard were the drops of rain hitting and sliding down the glass in a constant patter. Gently and softly as the long wait continued in earnest. It was always been like this. For a long time the joy had been sucked out of the house. The happy memories back in the distance.
Looking out through the glass towards a future that seemed like it would never arrive. To a happiness that seemed like it would never return. His face staring out the window in quiet desolation......
Time dragged and passed as he waited for it. Waited for the sound of tires turning into the driveway and the possibility of a better future.
There it was, her blue car was pulling into the space it used to occupy. It seemed like such a long time since she had walked towards the door and that painful wait to see if she ever would again.
Tail wagging now, he hopped excitedly down from the couch and ran to the door in welcome. He could sense her presence as that familiar sound of the key turning and the possibility of happiness returned.
“Hey there Brandy, I’m back from work. And what did you get up to while I was gone? Relaxing on the couch I bet.”
