If you happened to swing by yesterday, you saw me make some home made bread bowls, with the help of my little ones. Well that was just step one in this process. You can check that post out here to get caught up.
Once the bread bowls were made, all that was left was to fill em' up! The choice of filling? Beef tails, onions, mushrooms, garlic, seasonings and of course, topped off with provolone cheese.
Beef tails are the end point cuts of beef from sirloin and rib-eye. It's a dollar per pound cheaper and you're essentially getting the same meat, plus some rib-eye, it's a no-brainer when it comes to a meal like this when I'm gonna cut it all up anyway.
Quarter an onion and slice up some white mushrooms.
But first is to season the beef, S&P, garlic & onion powder, and a little flour.
Then sear em' off in the cast iron if ya got one. Just enough to brown them, they'll take dip in a simmering sauce later so leave some pink in the middle for super juicy and tender beef at the end.
Once the beef is browned, set it to the side, and throw in your onions and mushrooms in the same pan...keep those juices!!! Just adds more flavor.
Once the veggies are nice and caramelized, pour in your hot beef stock and bring it up to a simmer.
Then add your beef back in.
Take a quick second to have a silly moment with your biggest fans!
Ok, back to business! Cut out the middle of the bread bowl and fill it up with all that beefy goodness.
I did say Philly Cheese Steak didn't I? Of course I did, so throw down that provolone!
Oh yaaaaaaaaaaaa. Then pop those babies in the oven set to broil to melt all the cheesy goodness.
I vote this last image as an homage to @plantstoplanks, she always has such gorgeous food photos, like photo shop quality. I was channeling her skills when I took it so I hope it shows through.
This was a really fun meal to make, and I will definitely be giving it another go in the future. Maybe try and add some flavor to my bread like a sourdough or facaccia or something just to add another layer of flavor.
Thanks for reading y'all! Happy #fff!!!
