Did it get crazier this Friday here at Lily's Cottage or not?
It certainly did!
It's as if each Friday tries to outdo the other one with total carnage and chaos!
Sibongile, our trusted housekeeper and who I call my right hand, became a casualty of the persistent rain of the past couple of weeks as everything became slippery and she fell and fractured her...yes you guessed right...her right hand!
This was before the fracture when she sported a stunning new hairstyle with intricate braiding.
So for the past two weeks it's been all hands on deck with our brilliant gardener, hubby and I all pitching in to take turns at housekeeping.
As a result I'm now even more behind in submitting that darned tax return, so guess what I'll be doing this weekend!!! Yep, going through all those tax invoices and purchases made over the past tax year, a daunting task as neither admin nor bookkeeping is my forte!
I'd much rather play in the kitchen or the garden!
But it's time to put on our boxing gloves and face the fearless contenders of #fff under the beady eyes of our esteemed judges @dandays, @idig and @jlsplatts!
Best way to face the day is by having a hale and hearty breakfast, so I will be sharing with you some of the breakfasts we recently served our guests.
Bacon and sunny side eggs served with grilled tomatoes & basil is the most popular. I made a deliciously naturally sweet fresh fruit salad here with papayas, mangoes and apples.
Another favourite is Boerewors, a South African sausage with heady tones of dried ground coriander seeds, a touch of cloves and nutmeg; which I served with delicious avocado slices and creamy fluffy scrambled eggs served in a hollowed out tomato.
Boerewors, again, served with an Avocado & Sprouts salad and baby Italian tomatoes is another delicious start to the day, served with fruit and yogurt.
A Cheese Egg Burger is always popular for our young men with hearty appetites.
The ladies prefer having muffins with accompaniments like cheese, avocado, cold cuts, fresh fruit and yogurt. I made bran and banana muffins as well as savoury cheese muffins for this breakfast spread.
Kiddies also enjoy muffins, but of course their absolute favourite is crumpets/ flapjacks served with syrup, or jam; tuna or bacon and cheese.
Scones or homemade bread is everyone's favourite especially if it's just come out of the oven spread thickly with butter and jams!
So guys and dolls of #fff, I know I've overwhelmed you with choices, but it would be interesting which you would pick if you sat down at my table; but please don't pick a fight with me at any time;)
Till next week when I hope for a calm and serene Friday, although I don't have much hope for that as the school holidays are fast approaching and we will soon be inundated with vacation guests!
I am truly thankful for that and love our guests, but as with everything in life, it's not just all pain sailing as there are other less pleasant chores to be done and my pet hate is....admin!
I'd rather cook for a hundred than spend the day doing admin work so I'm saying it again, don't pick a fight with me now, that tax is looming and I'm like a bear with a sore head!
Hope to see you in the Food Fight Friday ring!
