Arm in arm, Patryg and Eva walked toward the sanctuary. If it weren't for the fact that they were having to leave, it would have been just another day.
They paused outside the door to sanctuary and reverently brushed their fingertips across the engraved symbols of the creative spirits. In keeping with the ancient teachings, the creative spirits were neither male or female, or both, depending upon whom you talked.
“I'm going to miss this place,” Eva muttered as she leaned against her husband.
Patryg sighed, “We can build another sanctuary. It's just a building.” He whispered as he took another long look around before pushing the door open and walking into the Sanctuary. His breath caught in his throat as he looked down the rows of benches that made up the worship center. As unbidden memories flooded his mind, he remembered each time that he and Eva had sat in this place and listened to the stories of creation and the spirits. “It's just a building.” He repeated.
Eva snuggled into him, offering comfort, then pointed to where six figures were arrayed around a glowing crystal that was inset into a three legged stand. With great solemnity, the pair slowly approached the Crystal and took a seat on one of the benches, with Eva curling into her husband. Because of their respect for the Creative Spirits, they wouldn't interrupt the meditation and would wait for the kneeling figures to notice them.
From the earliest days that they could remember, each child was taught how to meditate and was encouraged to seek the deeper mysteries of the creators. As a result, by the time most children were eight, they had already mastered at least two stages of meditation.
At first, none of the kneeling figures noticed that the couple was sitting in the sanctuary. It started out as vague awareness in the back of his mind. In his minds eye, he reached out and sampled the prana of the visitors and realized that they were his parents. He knew his father's spirit energy anywhere, and could feel the warmth of his mother's spirit. As he slowly came out of his meditation, his companions started to follow him.
It's okay, you keep meditating, it's just my parents. Jaymes thought as he slowly moved back towards consciousness. His other five companions withdrew from the group mindlink and sank back into their meditation. Like most people in the Keep, they respected privacy, but were curious. Just like most people, they would wait until they were let in on whatever secrets were in the air.
As he grew closer to consciousness, he reached out with his senses. What's wrong, Dad? You're worried about something. Could it be about Kalyb?
