Crypto Winter

Tiny fingers tremble. A child watches crystals form infinite patterns on the window. An eye expands in a magnifying glass.

The gas fire dies.

Mascara streaks her face. "How did it come to this?"

He looks away. "Money for old rope. Winter will end though, I promise.”

Snowflake's settle.

The end.

This is my first attempt at @jayna's 50 word story writing challenge. This is a great exercise in economy of words for prose writing, and despite using some imagery, I think I did OK in toning down my usual 'image heavy' style of fiction. The poet in me doesn't like cutting all those pretty metaphors but in the end, it needed doing 😉

I hope that the title explains the idea behind the story which is an extended metaphor for what we are all going through. This is not meant to be a negative expression on the markets, but rather a realistic reflection of the fact that many are feeling real hardships from the instability of this crypto world we all inhabit together.

The prompt for this 50 word flash fiction was the word Snowflake.

Thanks for reading.
