This is my submission for the @SteemPh 'Your Favorite TV Show' competition.
Not that I'm eligible or anything, since I am doing the judging. But still. I figured its a great excuse to pimp out my favourite TV show and who knows maybe can get a revival or something happening?
My all time favorite show, and I mean I watch the series then the movie in one sitting, at least twice, three times a year, is...
FIREFLY
Is a Western Sci-Fi show created by Joss Whedon (of Buffy and Angel fame) in 2002 it aired 14 episodes of season 1 before Fox cancelled the show in 2003.
And yes, I am still upset.
It is based in a distant future where people from an overpopulated Earth set forth out into space to find a new home. They found a new star system and began terraforming, and while some were transformed completely into habitable planets, some were not. The Alliance rules this system and occupies the habitable planets while others who do not want to be ruled by the Alliance dwell in the outskirts.
The story centres around 9 characters who live on Serenity, a Firefly class ship (thus the name Firefly).
Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) the Captain.
Zoe, his second in command. Wash, the pilot and Zoe's husband. Kaylee the engineer, Jayne the mercenary, Shepherd Book and Inara a 'Companion' (Escort.. but she's so much more than that!). There is also Simon Tam the ship's Doctor and his sister River.
The crew travels through the Universe trying to find "jobs" to keep them and Serenity afloat. They encounter the usual good and bad, and of course lots of shenanigans ensue throughout the 14 glorious episodes.
It's an amazing series with an amazing cast and Joss Whedon is pure magic. The way they weaved western with sci-fi blows my mind. When I first heard about it I wasn't sure how that was going to work, but it worked brilliantly. Add snappy comebacks flying around the place and you have Firefly.
I don't want to give away too much details for those who haven't seen this show so I'm going to stop here. I hate people who don't hesitate to drop spoilers so I'm not going to do that to you. You'll have to go check it out for yourself.
I will say that in the 15 years since the show was cancelled. It's fandom is still as strong and as passionate as ever. In fact, we "browncoats" are so loyal, dedicated and vast in numbers that the Firefly fandom is considered a cult following.
Captain Malcolm Reynolds
My favourite character I would have to say, is the Captain, Mal.
When you watch the first episode you're given a glimpse of who he was before the war ended. Sure he was still rough around the edges but there was an optimism and positivity about him that was inspiring. He believes and fights to the very end.
But sometimes things don't work out no matter how hard you fight, or how much you believe. And you see a marked difference in his character as the series continues.
Despite it all, deep down, beneath the onion layers you see he's a solid guy. He's got very strong convictions, does what he feels he needs to do ~ which isn't necessarily the right thing to do, but he does it all for his ship, his crew and the people who have earned his trust.
He reminds me of me sometimes.
Then again Jayne reminds me of me sometimes too.
WARNING
Before you go hunt this down I feel I need to be responsible and warn you. There is a high likelihood that you will LOVE this show, LOVE the characters and LOVE Serenity. AND you will be just like the legions of us who rage at FOX for the grave injustice done here.
Yes there's Serenity the movie, but still....

Have you seen Firefly? Did you like it? I give up 30+ hours of my life to it a year and I reckon those are hours well spent. Give it a go this weekend.
Happy Friday Steemit!
