Ch-ch-ch-ch-chia! The fuzzy green chia pets may be the first thing you think of when you hear the word chia, but these tiny superfood seeds are so much more than a lush coating. Despite their small size, chia seeds are full of essential nutrients such as omega 3, antioxidants, fiber, iron, calcium, among many others.
What's more, chia seed can take up 10 times their weight in water. When they do they for a gel- or gelatine-like substance, making them ideal to make jams and puddings.
Ingredients
2 apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
1 tsp. cinnamon (I used a bit more because I really love a strong taste of cinnamon)
2-3 tbsps. maple syrup, agave syrup, or honey (optional)
2-3 tbsps. chia seed
Instructions
- Add the apples to a food processor or blender and process until smooth.
- Add all remaining ingredients and pulse until everything is well mixed.
- Add the chia seed jam to a covered container or jar.
- Place in the fridge until jellified. This will take about an hour, letting it set overnight is best.
Optional: If you want more flavor, try adding nutmeg, ginger or clove.
