Baking fresh fries is just a lot more delicious than frozen fries you buy in the store. Making fries yourself is not as difficult as you think.
Step 1:
Choose the potato from which you want to make your fries. In Belgium, the "bintje" is often chosen as a good potato to make fries.
Step 2:
Start washing the potatoes and then peel them. Some people do not like to peel a potato, but then there is still a piece of peel on the outside of the fries. I personally do not like the peel.
After peeling, cut the potato with a small kitchen knife into fries. There are different types of fries depending on the shape and the width and length you cut them. I personally like very thin fries.
Step 3:
Once you have your freshly sliced fries you need to rinse them with cold water for a minute. This will rinse the fries' starch and this will produce a better result. Your fries will have a better color and are crispier.
Now you're ready to bake your fries :)
Step 4:
First you have to pre-bake the fries. This usually takes a 5 to 8 min at 160 to 170 ° C.
After pre-baking, Let the fries cool down for a few minutes.
Step 5:
Now we can start the actual baking of the fries. The frying temperature is between 180 ° C and 190 ° C.
The final baking time is much shorter than pre-baking. Bake the fries until the fries look golden.
Voila, with this recipe, you now have home-made fries instead of the standard deep-frozen fries that you buy in the store. As you can see, making fresh fries do not take much more time than deep-frozen fries. You only have to cut and fry the fries yourself.
