I travel the world Part 152: Fishmarket & Whitebait a super rare specialty!!!

Sea, Fishmarket and a great lunch

There is one thing I love about Italy and the sea. You see little fisherboats everywhere. The fisherman get the fish out of the sea and sell them the same day. Nothing is frozen and the quality is amazing. Having grown up eating a lot fish from the sea this is something I value very much.

I did drive around a bit to check out the sea and the markets in Catania this day.

I love sitting on rocks and watching the sea

The restaurants around the Fishmarket buy here and prepare it for you

Whitebait is something most of you have never seen...

Whitebait

In Sicilian cuisine whitebait are known as ceruses (literally translated as "baby"). Whitebait are the principal ingredient of the Sicilian specialty croquette polpette di neonata;  which are a type of rolled meatball of whitebait with parsley, and egg  and/or a bit of flour to amalgamate, fried in olive oil or sometimes  deep-fried in peanut oil. While not being very ecological eating these baby fishes... it's so delicious.. Don't forget to take Soysauce to a restaurant... a bit lemon and Soysauce and you will never again forget this taste...

We ate at this little Trattoria...

Can you see the Whitebait on the right.. it is super super delicious

And of course a little Vongole..

Great food is the most important thing for me and in Sicily you get plenty of it. Their fish variety is fantastic and everything is super fresh. You can just step in any restaurant and you won't be dissapointed. Everything is so fresh while being very well priced. We barely spent more on a lunch than 7$ per person.

Have you ever tried Whitebait???
