Today we had our lunch from a local vegetarian restaurant. One of us had Rice meal and other one had Chappathi and side dishes.
Vegetarian Rice meal consists of Rice ,One Chappathi and side dishes. Various types of pulses, vegetables ,cottage cheese and spices are used for making each side dish, and their consistency also is different. So each of them has different taste.
Side dishes are the following:
Rasam - a soup , an appetizer
Dhal curry with pappad - cooked dhal with gravy, pappad is a fried item.
Sambar - a curry made of cooked vegetables and dhal.
Thorans - Finely chopped vegetables and grated coconut cooked together.
Aviyal - mixed vegetables cooked with coconut.
Pachadi - cooked vegetables served in yogurt.
Ulathu -Stir fried vegetables.
Curried okra or cottage cheese - Okra cooked with spices and served with gravy, or cottage cheese cooked with spices and served with gravy.
Yogurt and butter milk.
Payasam - dessert
One or two types of pickles are also served with this.
I have posted recipes of Sambar, Thoran ,Ulathu and Chana in my previous posts.
First they serve all side dishes including dessert on a big plate lined with banana leaf. A Chappathi is also placed in the middle.
As soon as you finish Chappathi, they bring Rice and add more side dishes .
Finally one can have the yogurt and dessert .
The other meal was Chappathies and side dishes .
Chappathies are served with Stir fried cottage cheese with green pepper ,onion and tomatoes.

Mixed vegtable curry .
Cucumber salad.
Payasam- a dessert.
