Teardrop; Dewdrop (a 5-minute #freewrite turned poem)

Dewdrops gleam beneath the rising sun,

Illuminating each speckle.

Incessant noise breaks the illusion,

A glimmer of peace shattered.

It is the time for dreams but she is lost,

Lost sleep, lost thoughts, lost in time.

A moment of silence,

A brief passage into insanity as her mind loses itself.

Her eyes closed she intuits the inevitable,

The triumphant cry of the banshee's voice.

Streams fall from her eye and meet that of the grass,

Teardrop, dewdrop, find the end as one.

Today's five-minute #freewrite was disrupted every two seconds by a child imbued with the very essence of insanity. The actual writing, before I turned it into a poem, was:

The morning dew still gleams upon the grass, the rising sun illuminates each speckle as I stare out from the window. The incessant noise behind me a brief passage into insanity as my mind loses itself.

It is early. Earlier than normal. I should be dreaming but instead I am lost in my thoughts, daydreaming of the sleep I should be indulging in. Lost sleep, lost dreams, lost in thoughts, lost in streams.

A moment of silence. My eyes closed I prepare for the inevitable shriek to come, the triumphant cry of the banshee's voice. It is the end.

You can see why I decided to make it a poem instead. ;)
