"Lucky??? You call this lucky?" She sneered at him and he crouched down behind the couch.
He knew what was going to come next. Dishes flying through the air and he had to do the dance avoiding her wrath as he was trying to escape through the front door.
Maybe he could make it through the window today. He had moved the couch to be closer in preparation for telling her that he was done. He never ever wanted to see her again - that is what he thought and told himself every time after a row like that.
The police had been called by their neighbors several times and the female officers always looked at him with pity. The male officers didn't look at him at all when he started telling them about her voice.
But he always came back to her and there was no explanation. Not even in his own mind. she wasn't nice to him. Ever. She wasn't what anyone would call sexy or good looking. Not at all. And she was jealous as hell.
He didn't even have to look at another woman and she made a scene like she was doing right now.
Starting with that voice. Her voice becoming darker. Lower. Changing in a way he couldn't even describe.
It felt like the humaness had gone out of it and some creature was sending little growling noises through at the end of every word.
Before he knew it, the growling had taken over completely and something changed in her eyes. When he saw that change, he knew that he should leave but his body didn't allow him to do so.
It was equal part fascination and being frozen that made him stay - every single time.
His family called her the girl from hell - if they only knew how right they were.
