My #NovMadFan Experience

November was a crazy, mad month. It was NaNoWriMo which stands for National Novel Writing Month, for those of you who did not know. The @freewritehouse decided to hold their own #NaNoWriMo and 17 freewriters joined to write their own novel consisting of 50,000 words each in one month.

Since I am not an aspiring author I did not attempt to write a novel, however I was able to participate by being a #NovMadFan, which stands for November Madness Fan. The fans were cheerleaders, to support and encourage the writers to keep going. I had my own goal in mind. I decided to read every single word from day one until the end, but it would be impossible for me to do that for all 17 writers, so I had to choose five. @mariannewest, @felt.buzz, @improv, @bennettitalia and @carolkean.

You can just imagine the pressure the writers were under, and I also felt some pressure because I didn't want to miss one day and I didn't want to fall behind. @mariannewest only wrote excerpts every now and then; thanks a lot for teasing me Marianne, so that left me with four to cheer on. Well, let me tell you, I was blown away by the talent of these writers. Their stories were unique, complicated stories; stories within stories, with many characters and very well written. Their creativity is through the roof and I highly recommend that you read their stories. You will be hooked after reading the first chapters.

When I was a child, my parents didn't read books to me, nor did they encourage me to read. I hate to read because I do not comprehend what I read. I have to read each page, over and over again for it to finally sink in. Two years of tutoring in elementary school didn't help. The only books I liked to read were the children's encyclopedias. And, I never read a novel. It wasn't required in school and I had no desire to read one. It took way too long; it was frustrating and a chore, so I didn't bother.

I am a grandmother now and as a #NovMadFan, your novels were the first I have ever read. To my 4 1/2 #NaNoWriMo s, I can't thank you enough for making my experience a pleasurable one and you are truly an inspiration to aspiring writers and readers alike.
